My Princi in Milan

I went back in Milan again this past weekend for work. It was an important weekend as it was the culmination of steady work done for the past two years that will finally bear fruit. The weekend was très chargé (very packed) and I was running at 100 miles/hr, managing ten thousand things at once.

From past experience, Milan is closed on Sundays (and rightly so!). The only places open are touristy grease-spots, which means it’s very hard to find palatable food. I took a small detour walking to the client’s on Saturday to stock up on carbs, the bare necessities, fuel for all-night, all-weekend work.

Princi on Via Speronari

I thank my lucky stars that the client is located near Princi, an Italian pannetteria (boulangerie/ bakery). I went to the Princi on Via Speronari. It is a modern-looking bakery, with a clear glass storefront, terracotta tiles, and stylish pendant lamps. Every server wears a white baker suit. Their aprons and hands are clean and their hair neatly tied up.

Princi makes foccacias, mini sandwiches, pizzas and cakes. Its food has Mediterranean influence; lots of sun dried tomatoes, thyme, rosemary and lemons. Princi uses wholemeal organic flour that has been stone ground. The breads are baking at all hours of the day. If I understood the server well, Princi is open 24 hours a day. Or is that just the baking part? My Italian is non-existent.

In any case, I was well stocked for Sunday. I bought 4 olive foccacias, 1 huge chunk of ham and artichoke pizza, and 1 huge chunk of zucchini and cheese pizza.

Comments

hi, lovely review! i'm writing down the address in my little black book as we speak :)

I think Princi in Piazza Aprile has a restaurant with wood fire ovens for pizzas and a terrace to eat in the warmer months.

I consider this to be heaven!
